Bio-Rad Laboratories

Mechanical/Systems Engineering Intern

June 2022 • Pleasanton, CA

What I liked

The culture and mentorship at Bio-Rad's Digital Biology Group (now absorbed into the Life Sciences Division) was amazing. I got to meet so many industry professionals and made some of the best friends I've ever had here. I was able to get an internship extension into the school year through my Manager, which helped me during the school year and allowed me to immerse myself in Bio-Rad's ddPCR products.

What I wish was different

I wish I had the opportunity to work at Bio-Rad for longer, but due to circumstances outside anyone's control, my internship ended a year after I joined.

Advice

Be sure to apply yourself and get to know everyone! Every person at Bio-Rad comes from a diverse background and it's amazing to meet so many people.

The company culture here is incredible. Each and every employee was helpful and admirable, and worked very hard. Furthermore, the full-time employees treated the interns with dignity and respect.

What I wish was different

I wish the internship had been more challenging. I felt as though I could have been pushed harder and achieved more, but I understand it was just an internship.

Advice

Keep an open mind at all times. Don’t limit yourself because you haven’t learned about something in school, if you don’t know how to do it then research and learn on your own. It leaves a good impression.
