I received a lot of hands on experience by speaking at several informational sessions, having one-on-one conversations with students about my experiences and what they could gain by becoming a student here. I’ve worked on several outreach projects and had a lot of wonderful conversations with people in different functions of admissions.
What I wish was different
I wish I had more experience in more specific parts of admissions, such as international admissions. International students are a completely different neck of the semester woods from transfer students and regular fall admits, but I wish I had the opportunity to see what that process looks like.
Advice
My advice would be to talk with everyone. Ask everyone what they’re working on, how long they’ve been working here, what do they like about it and how it’s different from their last place of work. Everyone is always willing to share their experiences and it will only help you grow professionally.
