I like that I had weekends off and learned about how fire alarms are tested so that everyone is noticed when a fire occurs
What I wish was different
Some days we would work a lot but other days we would not do much so wish it was spread out more
Advice
Make sure you don't miss an alarm cause all of them need to be tested

Orientation Advisor
February 2018 • Binghamton, NY
What I liked
I enjoyed the opportunity to work with incoming students at Binghamton University. I'm a very social person and enjoy customer service, so this job was very rewarding and a good fit for me.
What I wish was different
The hours are quite demanding at times, however, that is a part of the job that I knew about going into it, and they are necessary for the program to function.
Advice
In any job or internship it is important to take care of yourself above all other things. At times the demanding hours and intense social interactions required for being an Orientation Advisor made it difficult to practice self care. In order to get the most out of anything though, you have to be healthy and happy, so always make that a priority.

Summer Orientation Staff
June - August 2018 • Binghamton, NY
What I liked
I enjoyed being a role model to incoming students. I loved sharing advice and personal experiences and helping new students and their families navigate campus and campus resources.
What I wish was different
I wish that the working hours were more consistent with not as many gaps in between shifts.
Advice
It is a rewarding experience, but you definitely get the most out of it if you are a people person.
