Big Shoulders Digital Production

Production Intern

February - May 2024 • Chicago, IL

What I liked

Every employee was extremely kind and open to giving advice! The company is super eager to work with interns, give them opportunities, and maintain a relationship with them after the internship is done. I really learned a lot and I had an awesome experience!

What I wish was different

Not much - Definitely better to apply in the fall or summer, during their active season.

Advice

This internship is really great if you're just starting out! Highly recommend if you have zero experience - they will accept anyone!

Video Editor Intern

July - August 2023 • Chicago, IL

What I liked

Learning ways to edit in a timely manner with a new file management workflow

What I wish was different

I wish I could have been paid for the professional, cooperative tasks that they gave us-- as in the final projects went to actual clients. I also wish I could have edited more variety of social media projects and explored some more after-effects skills.

Advice

Do not be afraid to ask questions and be creative with what you deliver in your projects.

Production Intern

March - September 2021 • Chicago, IL

What I liked

I loved the hands-on opportunity at this company, and how the supervisors prioritize teaching interns the skills-set they seek to hire for. Interns are asked to make company drives, PA on sets and in studio, and really have the opportunity to learn the equipment.

What I wish was different

Some days I would arrive and there wasn't a set office task I was assigned to, so I never really knew what the day would entail. The intern orientation documents could be updated and clearer.

Advice

This internship was a great opportunity to network amongst not only other interns but with Chicago video professionals. Let them know exactly what your career goals are going into your internship and they will try to cater your experience around that concentration. Be vocal about what aspect you want to work in, and always volunteer your time for weekend shoots- you will learn a lot.
