Tutor

May - July 2019 • McKenzie, TN

What I liked

I liked helping other students learn about subjects that they did not think they could do. Seeing their gradual process of learning and attitude change from a mindset that said they could not to confidence in their own ability is almost too difficult to put into words.

What I wish was different

I hate to be that guy, but I really do wish the pay was higher. The job was difficult and required me to know the subject material that the student came to me with well enough to teach them. The experience was great, but I left the job with having almost spent my whole paycheck in gas money to commute.

Advice

I would advise you to always keep an open mind and pay careful attention to people when they come to you asking for help. What might be the simplest thing in the world to you could appear to be an impassable barrier to someone else. Listen, be patient, and never be afraid to offer help in a clear and competent manner so that the student will leave having learned something.
