About Best Friends Animal Society

Best Friends Animal Society is a leading national animal welfare organization dedicated to ending the killing of dogs and cats in America's shelters. In addition to running lifesaving programs in partnership with more than 4,000 animal welfare groups across the country, Best Friends has lifesaving centers in New York City, Los Angeles, Salt Lake City, Bentonville, Arkansas, and operates the nation's largest no-kill Sanctuary for companion animals. Founded in 1984, Best Friends is a pioneer in the no-kill movement and has helped reduce the number of animals killed in shelters nationwide from an estimated 17 million per year to around 625,000. That means there are still more than 1,700 dogs and cats killed every day in shelters, just because they don’t have safe places to call home. Determined to bring the country to no-kill by the year 2025, Best Friends and its nationwide network of members and partners are working to Save Them All®. “Everyone at Best Friends is very friendly and easy-going. While I did not work directly with the animals everyday, sometimes we would jump in to help clean or make the kennel techs day-to-day easier. Although my schedule didn't really allow for me to host first day volunteer trainings, someone else in this role would have been able to run them which is a great leadership opportunity. They combined two positions for me (Volunteer Coordinator and Events Assistant Intern) so I had a well-rounded experience learning about both of those departments. This is a great opportunity to learn about non-profit organizations and how things are run behind the scenes, especially if you love animals and want to contribute to their health and well-being. ”
