What I liked

I enjoyed the casual, fun working environment of the store, and completing online orders was rewarding. They were always accommodating with my hours and I was always treated well during my time there. The job kept me busy but was never so demanding that I felt overwhelmed. I also enjoyed the benefit of getting an employee discount on clothes there so I could update my wardrobe.

What I wish was different

I wish that there had been more clarity in the management structure, as it made it confusing at times who I was supposed to report to and what needed to be done. It wasn't often that this impacted my job directly, but it often created confusion amongst other associates and customers picked up on the fact that things were off in the store.

Advice

I'd suggest getting to know the store quickly, and also getting to know other workers in the store as other associates were a big help when I was having trouble finding items for an order.

Building a community within the store as well as making relationships with clients. Working with the cosmetic company (clinique), being trained by their team and being introduced to others within the company.

What I wish was different

I wish there was an easier way of moving up within the company of belk or within clinique.

This should NOT be a career field, this was/is a job to get you through school and have some spending money.

What I liked

I loved learning about the corporate life and what everyone does on a day to day basis. I enjoyed shadowing the different apparel design teams and learning about their experiences and how they came to be apparel designers for Belk. Overall, it was a very valuable experience.

One piece of advice I would share about this experience is expect to be flexible, always ask questions and take notes of everything you learn.

Customer Analytics Intern

What I liked

Hands-on experience and ability to shadow coworkers not only in my department, but other areas within the company that I may have found interesting.

What I wish was different

Every intern is required to do an individual project and present on it at the end of the term. My project kept being changed, so there was a lot of rushing towards the end of the summer to get it done and make my task presentable.

Advice

It's great experience working with data of a $4 billion company with huge databases to run through. Everyone there is super open to meeting with interns to tell them about their role in the company. The internship program is also very structured and mostly well-organized.
