Beepboop

UI/UX Design Intern

June - August 2020 • New York City, NY

What I liked

I loved being able to work directly with a team of designers and engineers in order to make an accessible product. Continuously iterating and discussing ideas was a great way of ensuring we always prioritized our users. At Beepboop, I also enjoyed being able to communicate with the CEO, presenting new ideas and sharing designs for feedback. It was great to apply what I have learned in my human centered design courses to designing a product and then working with engineers to deliver this product to thousands of users.

Software Engineer Intern

May 2021 • New York City, NY

What I liked

I've been greatly supported by the team at Beepboop in being able to pursue work related to my interests. As a double major in Design and Computer Science, I had a multidisciplinary role doing both design and engineering work, and my growth in each was encouraged throughout my internship. The culture of Beepboop is also one that truly champions empathy: everyone I worked with was incredibly easy to talk to, and always willing to help out and answer questions.

What I wish was different

I wish I had more opportunities to get to know some of the other interns, but ultimately I enjoyed my remote experience and the flexibility that came with it.

Advice

I agree with other reviews that encourage people to take initiative in what they want to do. At Beepboop, I was consistently asked if I felt that the work I was doing was in line with what I wanted to get out of the internship: the people at Beepboop genuinely want to help to ensure the work you're doing is also work you gain something from.

Software Engineering Intern

March - June 2021 • Woodstock, VT

What I liked

The leadership team at Beepboop creates an extremely welcoming and exciting environment to work in. They are committed to creating positive intern experiences where each intern learns and grows as an engineer.

What I wish was different

As a startup, there are a lot of moving pieces and large changes happening in the company, which can sometimes make it difficult to find your niche as an intern.

Advice

I would advise future interns to really invest themselves in the company. The more you put into Beepboop, the more you get out of Beepboop!

Product Development Intern

June - August 2020 • New York City, NY

What I liked

I absolutely love my time interning at Beepboop! I got to create education content that's now taught to thousands of students. I worked directly with the product development team and leadership at Beepboop to innovate medical Spanish content. It was a fantastic experience because I got the freedom to choose what I wanted each lesson to include and look like from start to finish while still having guidance from the team throughout the way. I also had the rewarding opportunity to work with high school students in Bronx using the Beepboop Method. Those who work at Beepboop are so incredibly kind, and they genuinely want the interns to succeed. Lastly, even though my primary job was product development, the CEO also took my marketing interest into account and gave me the opportunity to create marketing content in unison with product development--two I things learned go hand-in-hand. The entire experience was a great, positive learning opportunity for me.

What I wish was different

I wish that we had been able to work together in-person, but we were unable to because of Covid. I feel like I missed out on that unique start-up work environment.

Advice

At Beepboop, you definitely have the opportunity to explore the areas that interest you, so make sure you voice them throughout your experience. Also, be proactive! Since it is a small start-up, there's always many things you can be doing and helping out with. Don't always wait to be told what to do. Show that you are proactive, and it will go a long way.

Software Engineering Intern

December 2020 - March 2021 • Vancouver, British Columbia

What I liked

Since Beepboop is still a very early startup, it was great having such a small team and getting very hands-on experience. The interns had a lot of responsibility and contributed enormously to the final product. I really enjoyed the direct communication between the product owners/full time employees with the interns. I could reach out at any time and receive a prompt response.

What I wish was different

Advice

Sometimes things is up to the interns to figure out, so make sure to do thorough research before starting to code. It is a lot better to go slowly but accurately than rush in and make the wrong decision.

Software Engineering Intern

September - December 2020 • New York City, NY

What I liked

Working at Beepboop offered great learning experiences as well as the opportunity to make a tangible impact on the company. As a software engineering intern, I was given an incredible amount of responsibility for the company's tech development. It was immensely gratifying to rapidly prototype, test, and launch features and be able to track their use starting later that day in Beepboop classes—an opportunity not available at any other internship I've had that led me to learn a large amount about the UI/UX and business aspects of customer-facing software applications. I also really enjoyed the cross-business aspect of the work. Every week included joint planning sessions with the CEO, tech team, marketing team, and drill instructors and the entire team was very welcoming and enthusiastic about the company. Overall, working at Beepboop was an awesome work and learning experience, and I recommend it to any student interested in software engineering and entrepreneurship!

What I wish was different

I wish that the internship had been in person—although given the pandemic, a remote internship was obviously the best decision.

Advice

While much of your work will entail working with other teams, I encourage you to go out of your way to learn about other sides of the business as well.

Marketing and PR Intern

August - November 2020 • New York City, NY

What I liked

At Beepboop, I was able to build my marketing skillset and gain experience through impactful hands-on projects including search engine optimization (SEO), brand design, paid social media marketing campaigns, email marketing campaigns, and more. Beepboop's internship program provided me the flexibility to explore the subfields of marketing that I was most interested in that simultaneously delivered substantial value to the company. I felt energized and motivated every day during the internship because of the exceptionally friendly work environment, where I felt like I could ask questions without judgment and maximize my learning. My favorite part about the internship program at Beepboop was the valuable mentorship I was provided; the supervisors are highly invested in your professional success and are always ready to include you in investor meetings, marketing calls, and other spaces where you can gain key insights into fields you may be interested in. Overall, I would describe Beepboop's internship program as an amazing place to develop new marketing skills and build professional experience in a learning-focused, energizing environment.

What I wish was different

Advice

One piece of advice I would share with prospective Beepboop interns is to be unafraid of taking initiative. Beepboop is a great place to develop new skills if you are willing to be a self-starter and communicate with your supervisors. You can explore a multitude of marketing areas during your months at Beepboop and learn by leading your own project in a subfield of interest.
