What I liked

Okay, so right off the bat I'm just going to say that I'm biased. I've always wanted to learn how to be a barista, and because I'm a mega bookworm, I've wanted to work at Barnes & Noble for forever! So this is kind of a dream job of mine, and it's totally lived up to my expectations! The managers are so kind and helped me feel at home from day one, and the employees were super patient with me when I was training and feeling insecure for knowing, well, basically nothing about being a barista! The work is challenging, especially when there are big rushes of people, but time seems to fly by on shifts, and because I've made lots of friends it's really fun working with everyone! In addition to being a barista, I'm also being trained to work on the book floor as well, so not only do I get to have a great time making drinks, I also get to work with my one true love: books! Double-whammy! It's a different change of pace from working in the cafe, but again, people have been patient with me, and it's been an enjoyable time learning how to help the customers and my coworkers.

What I wish was different

To be honest, I wish it paid a little more, but the most important thing is that I love my job. I'd rather be working somewhere I love that pays a little less than I want than somewhere I hate that pays me tons of money.

Advice

Learning all the different types of drinks and recipes was overwhelming at first. But don't be afraid to ask questions and to make as many drinks as possible, even if they feel too complicated. In my experience, that's the best way to learn and remember. With lots of practice, you'll be a pro in no time!
