Clincal engineering intern

What I liked

The experience was great at a user level. I got to work with a lot of medical devices and really see how they work internally.

What I wish was different

I wish there were more opportunities to go and shadow specialty technicians so that I could see more of those more complex devices.

Advice

Great chance to work with a number of devices from big name biomedical companies. Make sure to ask questions.

Patient Experience (PX) Ambassador

June - July 2019 • Tucson, AZ

What I liked

During my time as an intern at Banner Health, I enjoyed working with the staff in the emergency department, meeting and assisting patients, as well as being helpful to the nurses by routinely checking on patients. Furthermore, I enjoyed learning how employees are expected to conduct themselves when in a hospital setting and creating relationships with the staff members I worked with every day.

What I wish was different

I wish that my interning experience had been a paid opportunity and that there was more of a shadowing opportunity already set in place for interns.

Advice

If I could give someone advice about interning at Banner Health, I would tell them that it is a great position with lots of opportunities to learn about what it is like to work in a healthcare field. Furthermore, I would instruct them to keep an open mindset and be adaptable and willing to expand one's skill set as often as possible.

Registered Nurse

July 2017 - December 2018 • Mesa, AZ

What I liked

The teamwork on the oncology floor is amazing. Everyone helps everyone and it’s a very close-knit work family.

What I wish was different

Although I completely understand the business aspect of a hospital, once we became a Level 1 Trauma Center, our focus shifted to how fast we could open up a bed; that is not why I got into nursing and one of the main reasons I looked for work elsewhere.

Advice

Ask questions about the new grad program; make contact with your educator on a regular basis so that you don’t get lost in the shuffle!!

Hospital Security Officer

November 2017 • Loveland, CO

What I liked

I really enjoyed working with medical staff, It made me feel that the work that I was doing was important and beneficial to all those I work with and helped assist. I also liked how my job was operated, sometimes we had downtime to socialize with staff, but it also had moments of excitement and critical thinking involved to solve a situation that arose. No matter what there was always something to do at work and it was always different.

What I wish was different

I can't say that I wish much was different, I really have enjoyed my job and the whole process that goes into a day of work. I Wish sometimes that some individuals we worked with didn't want to try and hurt staff, but sadly that's the world we live in.

Advice

One thing I can say from my job experience that I live by everyday is that hard situations make for good stories, whether its a bad situation that will be humorous later on or a situation that causes you to learn a valuable lesson that you or others can benefit from.

What I wish was different

N/A

Advice

Take advantage of your time there and the connections you make because with that you are able to explore much more of health care than the description of the program.
