What I liked

I aspire to be a veterinarian so being exposed to the real life behind the scenes in the veterinary world was one of a kind. I love everything about my job. Drawing blood, placing catheters, interacting with patients and clients, etc.

What I wish was different

Advice

It’s definitely one that requires a commitment. It’s usually 10 hour days. You definitely have to love the field to enjoy the job.

The ability to be hands on from the beginning. It was mandatory to complete training videos but after a certain time you were able to work under supervision of a senior staff.

Veterinary Technician Extern

What I liked

Banfield was an incredible experience where I was able to step into the field of veterinary medicine. I practiced clinical skills, client communication, animal care, surgical assistance and laboratory procedures. It was a way for me to work with a skilled medical team who pushed me to grow every day!

What I wish was different

I wish that this summer externship could have lasted the entire summer. I know that I could have grown even more if I had another month or two.

Advice

Jump right in! In relation to hands on skills, do not be nervous. It is a safe and comfortable environment for learning. I wish I had shook my nerves away a bit sooner.
