Aware Recovery Care

Policy and Procedure Intern

May - August 2018 • North Haven, CT

What I liked

It was my first time working in a company so I was really nervous and didn't know what to expect, however the work environment was absolutely incredible thanks to my welcoming and friendly co-workers. They guided everyday and taught skills that I did not have and educated me on information I needed to know to better complete my tasks. I worked closely with the Policy department so I got the chance to do research on state and federal laws to make sure the company was complying and not violating any health regulations.

What I wish was different

Maybe going around to the different departments more and seeing how they contributed to the company. This would have given me a more diverse experience.

Advice

It's okay to go into a company that might not necessarily be 'related' to your major because ultimately, you WILL learn something new and useful for your future endeavors! This company is In home addiction treatment company which is not one of my interests however, I gained knowledge and insight of the current state of those addicted to substances and private businesses such as Aware and public services are treating them.
