I fell in love with Aviagen’s visions, mission, and culture. The work each day was interesting and enjoyable. I learned about the company, more about myself, and about real-world poultry research.

What I liked
They really wanted you to learn the ins and outs of the broiler breeder industry. They take lots of time to teach you everything you need to know
What I wish was different
I wish I didn’t have to do an internship the summer after COVID-19 began. It out a major halt on a lot of the plans my employers had for me.
Advice
Walk into every department with an open mind. Just sit back and try to learn as much as possible! That’s what an internship is for. You don’t have to prove how much you know. They’re there to teach yoy

What I liked
We did a bunch of microbial tests for different diseases that may be present in their flocks. Did routine monitoring of flocks where we went and visited farms and conducting necropsies on birds.
What I wish was different
Not anything I loved and enjoyed my experience at Aviagen.
Advice
Try to learn as much as you can cause you will be exposed to many different areas of the company and meet many people and networking is a big deal in the Poultry Industry.
