What I liked

I got access to plenty of educational resources to better my skills in user experience design. I also had access to anyone at the company to talk to and learn about the company or their career journeys. I also loved the team I worked with and the exposure to the responsibilities I had.

What I wish was different

I wish I was working with another UX intern.

Be honest about what is working and what isn’t working for you. This company/experience is all about making sure you’re happy where you are and helping you learn!

Have an idea of what you want out of the internship before going into it so that if supervisors ask you what you are hoping to learn, you have an answer.

Advice

During my internship, I was worried that I was not prepared for the role. However, they don't expect much from you. You have to prove that you are ready for the position by showing your technical and verbal skills.

What I liked

If you ask any employee what their favorite thing about working for Avanade is, you'll most likely get this response: the people. The culture at Avanade is welcoming and supportive and as an intern, I felt respected and valued. During my time there, I was able to talk to higher up executives and when I asked for help, no one turned me down. Avanade is a great place to work because employees have the flexibility to learn a lot in a short amount of time.

What I wish was different

From the perspective of a Software Engineering Intern, my project was not very technical. I understand that interns are given projects with low-stakes. However, I wish my project was more rigorous.

Advice

One piece of advice I would give to other interns is to grow your network. Consulting is project based which means sometimes you'll be on a project and sometimes you'll be "on the bench". Meeting new colleagues and sharing your interests with them will help them remember you when they find a project that fits your skills.
