I like how early I got oriented to the unit and comfortable with the intensity and environment of the ICU. I am getting tons of (critical care) nursing experience every day!
What I wish was different
I wish that my clinical hours paired with my externship, so I am not at the hospital 4-6 days/week.
Advice
It is a commitment of 20+ hours/week that comes with a job offer on the unit after graduation!

Laboratory Processor
June 2018 - August 2019 • Green Bay, WI
What I liked
The fast-paced work environment and knowing my work was helping the sick, particularly those at Vince Lombardi Cancer Clinic.
What I wish was different
I wish I knew the job was more data entry and customer service oriented. I was initially told it would involve benchwork and running of tests, but only Medical Laboratory Technicians/Technologists are permitted to run those tests.
Advice
Be diligent when ensuring test specimens are collected correctly by the nursing staff and are viable., A contaminated specimen can give either an inaccurate result or require a redraw both immediately or a week later.
