Atrium Health

Intern

July - August 2020 • Charlotte, NC

What I liked

I loved how even though it was the first time the internship was held virtual, the team was still able to provide great opportunities for students. One of the best experiences was meeting with new people who spoke about their daily lives and how the job effected one's life personally. I was able to learn some of the mistakes made by professionals and how to never gave up.

What I wish was different

I believe the internship could have been a better experience if it was held in person. However, the experience was still amazing, interesting, and educational.

Advice

I worked in a health department which required a lot of research from student and critical thinking. When you start to struggle about a project or the information seems overwhelming, it is important to divide project by pieces and seek advices. When clear ideas about project are being stated, it is easier to work and accomplish goals.

Research Scholar Intern

June - August 2017 • Charlotte, NC

What I liked

It was a great opportunity to learn about various aspects of research. The education sessions to learn about performing research and experiments going on at the hospital were helpful and informative. I enjoyed interacting with other students working in different departments.

What I wish was different

I wish there had been a bit more hands on experience.

Advice

The experience is what you make it, because your work is mainly independent. If you want to shadow or do other things, get in in contact with people early to get it set up. There are so many resources at the hospital and most people are willing to help.
