ASSA ABLOY

Mechanical Engineer

May - August 2018 • Berlin, CT

What I liked

The professional atmosphere was amazing and the people I worked with were understanding and helpful. I learned a lot about 3D modeling design and all the components that go into a successful company. I also got to work in the laboratory, and assemble the products. After assembly, I would set them up for testing and report the outcomes after they were finished. The company was located in a factory that hadn't been renovated since it opened way back when. There were so many empty warehouse areas where the faint smell of metal resonated.

What I wish was different

I wish that I was able to work a little longer than I did. I wasn't able to finish I couple projects I was working on because I had to come back this semester. I also wish that I went down to the factory floor more and explored all the different areas. I wish I had the confidence to walk up to the floor workers and ask them about what they were doing and how it applied to the end product. Hopefully I will be able to return and learn more.

Advice

If I had to share one piece of advice it would be to have confidence. Yes, it is terrifying to walk into a new professional environment, but remember that you interviewed to be there and they chose you. You are an asset to them and the more time you spend learning the ins and outs, the more successful you will be. Don't be nervous, be confident in your abilities.
