What I liked

The workplace is very active and entertaining, you get to experience all different aspects of the industry from the get go and really expand your professional portfolio.

What I wish was different

I do not think I would have done anything different.

Advice

Interviewing, at least with this young company, seemed to rely more on connection and how well you fit into the corporation. They have already seen your resume and know what you have accomplished, relax and talk to them as you would during the day. See how well you would fit in with the other employees you may be joining.

What I liked

High-energy company where people really care about the work they do. Young feel with lots of likeminded people. Great management and interesting day-to-day operations. Potential to make a lot of money and control my own schedule. Great location as well.

What I wish was different

More formal sales training. I got a lot of sales training from my mentor, but the internship program itself did not give much advice on sales strategy.

Advice

Give it a shot! This is a growing industry, and now is the perfect time to join. Just be prepared to be busy because this is not the kind of internship where you can just sit around all day, waiting to get coffee or donuts for your boss.

What I liked

The company is awesome and and the job is very interesting. You learn a lot very quickly, but it does not feel overwhelming. The fast paced environment was something very new to me but I grew to enjoy it after only a few days. You also do important work that makes an impact and allows you to understand the industry. During this internship I learned a ton of new skills that I will use for the rest of my career, no matter the field. The employees and everyone that you will work with are very nice and want to see you succeed. In particular, the trainers and recruiting teams do an excellent job at communicating and helping you understand an industry that you probably don't know much about. They know that the industry and this field isn't for everyone but encourage you to learn as much as possible, which I felt was very important. After you are assigned to a sales team you will be working hand in hand with some hard workers and see how the job really works. Also, if you are interested in other parts of the company it is encouraged to network and set up a meeting with someone in that field. Finally, the other interns I worked with were really great people. I'm not sure if we just got lucky, but all of us became pretty close friends by the end of the summer. I give kudos to the recruiting team for picking a great group of interns. As a whole, the summer was a great experience and I highly recommend it to anyone that is considering.

What I wish was different

Once you are out on the floor you don't get to see much of the other side (Carrier Sales). It would be cool to have a few more shadowing opportunities with that side specifically. I also wish the city wasn't so expensive, but you can't change that.

Advice

Be prepared to get on the phone. It is a scary thing at first but gets very easy after only a few calls.

Carrier Sales Intern

May - August 2022 • Chicago, IL

What I liked

Welcomed a class of roughly 25 interns with open arms. Provided a 2 week training to learn the basics of the 3PL industry including equipment used, terminology and Arrive's approach to the industry. Shortly after was placed on a team with full time carrier sales representatives and began building my own book of business along with the help from a mentor and extremely supportive team.

What I wish was different

I wish I was able to shadow more of the Business Development, Account Executive and Operations sides of the business to better understand the business as a whole as well as see where I could benefit the company the most with my skillset.

Advice

Highly recommend, learned from some of the best in the business and had fun doing it.

Carrier Sales Intern

What I liked

I really enjoyed the Training portion of the Internship. It was a classroom setting with all of my fellow interns, one of the best groups of people I've been put together with. The management and executives at Arrive seemed to genuinely care about us and our time here. They make it clear that this industry isn't for everyone and the purpose of the internship was for us to see if it is a fit for what we want to do. Arrive also opened up the possibility of coming back for roles other than sales within their company. For instance, I inquired about being interested in IT, they scheduled me a day to shadow the IT department and meet with one of the executives for that division. All in all I felt it was a lot of learning and work, but the knowledge gained and relationships built were well worth my time. Also lots of free food (every Monday and Friday), Arrive Swag, and events put together just for us.

What I wish was different

Our offer letters said 8-4, but when placed on a sales team after training those hours were subject to change depending on the team. Wasn't a big deal, but more coherency of the nature of the work hours here would be nice.

Advice

I was on the fence about coming because it was pricey to move and I had no prior knowledge of the freight industry. However, I decided to make it happen and it exceeded any expectation I had. I would recommend the Internship program, the company, and ATX to anyone who has the opportunity to be a part.

What I liked

-The best part about Arrive are the people within your internship class and employees in the office. My internship class consisted of roughly 24 interns from across the country who were all interested in pursuing sales/brokerage careers. You will become close with all of the other interns and spend a lot of time together at work and after hours doing fun things around the city. None of the other interns were from Austin, TX so we were all able to explore the city together which was a lot of fun. It truly was a great way to network with highly motivated individuals from different parts of the country. -It is a very fast paced work environment where you will quickly learn how to multi task efficiently throughout the day. I really enjoyed how there was always something to work on and how much I was able to learn about 3PL in such a short period of time. This internship will provide valuable insight into the industry and overall market. They allow you to work on real projects, clients, etc which was great because it felt like we were actually helping the company. - They offer a housing stipend and put you in touch with a relator who specializes in finding employees/interns housing who are relocating to Austin. - Allow you to join intramurals such as football, softball, rugby - Many happy hours and dinners throughout the internship - Free lunch Monday and Fridays

What I liked

The relaxed community of employees around the entire office and how welcoming everyone was in being friends as well as answering any questions I had. The training process is very thorough and necessary in order to become the best version of yourself once you come out of training. Even when I graduate from training, I know that I still have a large dedicated team to help answer any questions and help me through any problems I may encounter in the future. Arrive also does a great job accommodating us with reimbursements on some monthly expenses, lunch twice a week and office-wide raffles fairly regularly! This company cares about keeping their employees happy, which is something I never doubted.

What I wish was different

I wish that the Ops portion of training for BD reps after the initial foundations training graduation was slightly shorter, but I do understand the purpose of cementing our operations skills once we grow our own book of business.

Advice

Whether you are on the carrier side, business development, or operations, these positions are meant for people who have these traits: -Can handle multi-tasking throughout a full work day -Someone who can maintain their composure during tough and hectic days -Understands risk management within a book of business and within themselves -Is willing to be constantly learning and makes an effort to learn from their mistakes (logistics has endless issues) -Can problem solve on the fly and can properly communicate that with employees and businesses -Is fearless on the phone I believe in order to be successful at this company, your previous experience and educational background have less relevance on a day-to-day basis, but more so if you are motivated to be a hustler and a beneficial team member.

What I liked

I liked that I got to move to a new city and we around 45 other college students from all over the US for an entire summer.

What I wish was different

I wish that they would’ve offered a housing stipend because finding affordable housing was kind of tough

Advice

One piece of advice I would share would be to not be afraid to talk to the employees at the company. They are there to answer your questions and would rather you ask questions more than once then never ask and mess up.

What I liked

Arrive has a team culture that no matter when you started, everyone wants to know who you are. The reward is satisfying for the work that gets done. I love the location, the job itself and the people that come with it.

What I wish was different

The transition from the training class onto the floor. It was a very quick transition but all he managers are very helpful hat you won't feel like you can't control yourself.

Advice

Internal Branding. Talk to people whether it is at lunch, after work or walking past. These people are so friendly and just want to be your coworker and friend. Dont be afraid to put yourself out there.
