Arizona State University - Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering

E2 Student Lead

May - August 2018 • Tempe, AZ

What I liked

I liked all the experience I got from the position and how many new incoming Freshmen I met out of attending the camps. I managed logistical preparations for E2, compiled registrations, ordered and shopped for event supplies. In addition, I marketed E2 Camp by interacting with students and parents at over 10 New Student Orientations. Overall, I boosted my networking, communication, organizational, leadership, and public speaking skills. At the same time, I was having a blast with all the campers, counselors and staff and faculty from Fulton.

What I wish was different

The only thing I wish had been different was not getting to know more students individually. I did a good job of keeping the group energized together and facilitating the overall schedule of the campers. But, I wish I had more time to sit down 1 on 1 with more students and hear their life stories. I got to do it occasionally through the campfires we had every night and the meals we ate in the cafeteria together. However, I wish I made more of an effort to take time and pick more of the student's brains on a personal level. Now, when I am on ASU's campus, they recognize me and my name- but, I cannot say alot of their names back since there were just hundreds of students I had met.

Advice

I would share that the individual should not take the position for granted. It is the most rewarding experience I have had in college thus far. It is a prestigious position that only a handful of students can do. It requires hard work, focus, patience, a positive attitude, the right energy and plenty of more. One has to be incredibly selfless and sacrifice their personal health in order to make sure everybody else is enjoying their camp experience. It is something that can only be done once so make the most of it!

What I liked

On campus job. Work very closely related to class material. Opportunity to work with other students using all of my attained knowledge.

What I wish was different

This is not an industry position and I probably would have benefited more from an internship. If I did it again I would have gone for an internship.

Advice

Tutoring with FSE Tutoring Centers is a great way to keep up your curriculum from lower level classes, which is usually what is asked on interview questions.
