Aptive Environmental Corporate

Sales

May 2018 - August 2019 • Portland, OR

What I liked

I loved how Aptive leaves a lasting impression just after one summer! The training to develop into a high preforming sales and marketing intern is on another level! Not to mention I made more in my first summer with aptive than the previous 4 summer jobs combined. Aptive has a very high energy culture that expands beyond just sales and into real estate investing, financial literacy and understanding taxes! Pretty cool that a summer job turned into a full time career where I’m happier than I would be if I was in medical school and have a much more enjoyable life style as the summer sales program is only 15 weeks and I’m able to take the remaining 8 months off!

What I wish was different

I wish I would have heard about this position sooner. Hearing about cold calling and door to door marketing had a very negative light about it but it was always from someone that didn’t actually do it. I wish the opportunity was more wide spread as most college students like myself would just look for internships that are unpaid just to work at a well known company gaining subpar skills. This is a school of hard knocks as Aptive and sales in general aren’t easy, but that’s why those who complete a summer tend to be way more successful in their careers compared to someone that joins the corporate world at 22 years old and never experience things outside of that world. Phil Knight ,Mark Cuban, and George Clooney all started in this field yet the business of college hardly ever offers these opportunities to students.

Advice

You have to be in a position where you want to go against the norm. I had a lot of college debt and no money from family to help me through school. I was motivated to try something new and a full commission job on the sales force was scary but exciting at the same time. I knew what I was going to make at $20 an hour for my old summer job no matter how hard I worked. At Aptive I didn’t know what I would make but I was very dedicated to do more and that lead to on average of $100 an hour in my first summer. Thank goodness I bet on my self rather than another hourly position like I had done in previous summers!

Sales Team Leader

December 2020 • Grand Rapids, MI

What I liked

Aptive Environmental provides college-aged people with unparalleled leadership and sales training. I’ve been working with the company for 3 years now, and I love the culture and growth-centered training. Working as a sales representative and transitioning into team management after only one year with no previous sales experience, I can honestly say that there is no better opportunity for upward mobility in an organization than with Aptive. I would recommend anyone who is hard-working, personable, and gritty meet with an Aptive representative and see what this job could do for them.

What I wish was different

Advice

This job requires mental fortitude, the ability to be personable, and a good attitude. Anyone who possesses these traits has the potential to see great success working with Aptive. It is not uncommon for new hires to earn 6 figures and high 5 figures with proper training.

What I liked

The pay was pretty decent. The work was physically demanding but mentally very easy. The work was consistent so I was able to make sure I always had hours.

What I wish was different

I wish I didn't have to work every other Saturday.

Advice

Try to avoid doing this in Arizona over the summer. Aptive is in a lot of other places with better climates during the summer.

Pest Control Worker

May - June 2019 • Austin, TX

What I liked

I loved being able to do my own thing, obviously I was preparing to go out and knock doors and run into a lot of people, but at the end of the day it was the first hand experience that helped the most and really helped in my mental growth.

What I wish was different

I wish I had just prepared better, gone out and done it prior to heading out there to Austin. Just to get a feel for myself.

Advice

Door to door knocking is hard, it’s not just walking around knocking doors talking to people and thinking everyone will be friendly. Its a hunt, a hunt for a sale or just for that opportunity to get your pitch out and lure your pray in. There’s the hunt that is a thrill. And the kill which is the sale that comes as a reward.

I liked the team atmosphere and camaraderie that was always present. But even as a team you’re individually recognized and trained.

What I wish was different

I wish I’d been more experienced before I started the job, but luckily you get a lot of great on the job experience.

Advice

You need to keep a laser focus on your goal, and push all negativity and distraction out of your life or else you’ll lose out on success you could have had.

What I liked

I really enjoyed my manager Kenny Gordon who did a great job running the team as well as motivating us to work hard.

What I wish was different

Not much, I have worked for Aptive for over 3 years now and have really enjoyed my experience.

Advice

The job is difficult, but if you can do it there is nothing else that will pay more than this job. Aptive is the best door to door company. I am not saying that just because I worked there they have the stats to prove it as well.

What I liked

My coworkers and being away from everything for a summer. It was refreshing and advanced my maturity as well as improved my confidence and mental strength unlike any other job. Super rewarding because it is commission based so the amount of work you put in correlates directly with how much you make. Pay was fantastic.

What I wish was different

I wish I would have stayed up there for longer and had more time to work for them.

Advice

It changed my life.

What I liked

It pays so well. Graduate with zero debt and be able to be an independent adult. It gives you great experience and can be fun if you enjoy the weekends.

What I wish was different

Advice

This job is hard and time consuming. You must be willing to give up your summer by moving somewhere else in the country for 4 months and working 9-10 mon-fri 8-4 sat. If you are a hard working and driven person, this may be for you. If you want an easy job that makes you a lot of money then this is NOT for you.
