Applied Research Laboratory at The Pennsylvania State University

Embedded Systems, Hardware, and Navigation Laboratory Test and Evaluation Co-Op

September 2019 - March 2020 • Warminster, PA

What I liked

My supervisor was knowledgeable about navigation and engineering and regularly took the time to explain these complex concepts that would. He was always readily available to answer questions and help, but still allowed me to figure out how to complete each task. I felt like I got a lot of great direction, but also had the ability to work on what interested me. Work environment was a lot of fun, its a smaller work place, and everyone is very welcoming and caring.

What I wish was different

A good deal of the projects there are classified, so especially toward the end of my coop, there were a few lulls in the work they could assign me.

Advice

If you're an intern, ask for a security clearance. If you hit a lull in the work you're assigned, don't be afraid to wander the building and ask for things to do, almost every single project leader there will gladly hand you work. Also, the engineers who work there are incredibly smart, so ask lots of questions.
