Appalachia Service Project

About Appalachia Service Project

Appalachia Service Project (ASP) is a Christian ministry, open to all people, that inspires hope and service through volunteer home repair and replacement in Central Appalachia. ASP envisions the eradication of substandard housing in Central Appalachia and the transformation of everyone who comes in contact with this ministry.

ASP uses volunteer labor and creates opportunities for both staff and volunteers to take part in an educational, hands-on experience providing emergency home repair and replacement, while learning about life and culture in Central Appalachia.

Appalachia Service Project hires summer staff and fellows (18 year+ and at least one year removed from High School) to facilitate volunteer hosting and construction project management while helping foster relationships among all who come in contact with our organization. Employment opportunities at ASP are paid positions.

“Working for ASP has been the greatest professional decision I have made in my college career. This job provides the unique opportunity to manage projects, manage volunteers, and become fully invested in a community in central Appalachia. While the amount of responsibility seems daunting, the environment that ASP creates is one of pure empowerment and support. From the volunteers to the administrative staff, ASP truly embodies a family-like work environment and allows summer staff from all backgrounds to succeed in their unique position. ”

“Challenging and rewarding. The job works directly with folks doing free home repair for impoverished families and you can see the difference your contributions make.”
