Field Marketing Intern

May 2021 • Pittsburgh, PA

What I liked

I have enjoyed every moment of my time at Ansys. My team mentored and guided me throughout my entire time as a field marketing intern, and I also was given independence to complete my work and stay focused on tasks.

What I wish was different

I wish it was in person! But due to Covid, the company still remains working from home.

Advice

Make connections outside of your team! I was able to connect with many others outside the Americas team who had different roles other than field marketing.

Product Management Intern

May - August 2019 • West Concord, MA

What I liked

I got to work on my own projects, and see my ideas implemented into the software daily. I also got to learn how to use a variety of their products. Everyone I worked with was very helpful, and if I had a question someone would take the time to sit down with me and really explain what was going on. The people I worked with valued my input, especially as I had never used most of the software before so they were able to see what kind of questions or problems a new user would have.

What I wish was different

I would have liked to work with other interns on projects. I was the only intern in the Product Management department, and while there were other interns in the building I had little interaction with them in terms of work and assignments.

Advice

Be creative! People there love to listen to new ideas, and if its well-pitched and could have a major impact, will work to make sure those ideas are actually implemented.

Software Development Co-op

January 2017 • Canonsburg, PA

What I liked

I really like the environment. Everyone on my team is a pleasure to work with. They are very knowledgeable about software development and engineering ; I felt that I've learned a lot from my team. My responsibilities started off pretty small but as my co-op continued, I was given larger and more significant projects. Now I am an independent developer who can make meaningful contributions on software projects.

What I wish was different

Advice

Always be on the look out for more projects to take on - managers love to see a student taking the initiative to contribute.

Advice

Speak up from the beginning of the internship so you are comfortable with the work you are doing and the people you are working with.

Software Development Engineer Intern

I enjoyed having the opportunity to work on several different projects and learn many different concepts and technologies.

What I wish was different

Technical Documentation Specialist

May - August 2018 • Lebanon, NH

What I liked

I liked the collegiate atmosphere of the job and the independence of the work schedule. Daily hours were fairly flexible and I enjoyed working closely with a small team. The pay was also very competitive.

What I wish was different

Towards the end of the internship, I started to run out of projects. I would have liked to have a slightly more structured list of tasks to accomplish on a daily basis.

Advice

This internship was not what I was originally searching for. It was in Technical Documentation instead of Engineering, but I still learned valuable skills in both computational fluid dynamics and basic office professionalism. It was also a chance to do my first internship close to home, rather than in another state. My advice would be to apply for opportunities even if they aren't what you think you want. They may turn out to be greater learning experiences than if you had gotten your dream job.

Coop

May 2016 - August 2017 • Pittsburgh, PA

What I liked

Casual attire. Not strict on working 9-5, could work 8-4 or 10-6. Multiple events for coops for personal development. Everyone very friendly.

What I wish was different

Traffic around 5pm (+/- 30min) can get pretty backed up.

Advice

Take advantage of all the people there and don't be afraid to ask questions.
