Amway

Distribution Engineering Intern

May - August 2018 • Ada Township, MI

What I liked

Amway has a great work environment and a fantastic intern program. There were a lot of opportunities to connect with other interns and develop as a professional including an Intern Connect event with local interns, headshots, reverse career fair, and executive speakers. I was given a challenging task that gave me real-world project management skills and floor experience in the distribution center.

What I wish was different

I wish my tasks had been laid out clearer at the start of my internship. My hiring manager wanted my stretch goal to accomplish something that I wasn't planning on and it wasn't clarified until halfway through the internship. It pushed me to complete the goal under more pressure, but it was something my advisor complained about on my 8-week review.

Advice

Network! There are a lot of great employees that are ecstatic to meet new employees/interns.

Botanical Ingredient Development Intern

June - September 2019 • Buena Park, CA

What I liked

I was given a challenging, relevant project that is still ongoing at the company. The people there were very kind and willing to help.

What I wish was different

I wish I had more time to dive deeper in my project, but it is hard to go over 12 weeks during a summer internship.

Advice

My advice would be the same advice given to me at the start of my internship. Don't be afraid to fail or to try new things. At this company, I had flexibility on my project and was able to add my own twist to it and explore possibilities I thought of.

Digital Analytics Intern

May - August 2019 • Ada Township, MI

What I liked

I loved that we got real projects that actually mattered to the company. We got to do a ton of enriching events such as listen to our CEO and other C-level executives. We got to participate in a reverse career fair to present our projects to leadership throughout the company. We had fun events such as touring the hangar and having an innovation challenge. I also loved making friends with the 60 other interns here.

What I wish was different

I wish it was longer than 12 weeks.

Advice

I would say that it’s great to get experience at a huge corporation before you graduate and also to have experience at a smaller company to help you find what area you like to work best in. Always apply for jobs you think you may or may not be qualified for.
