American Modern Insurance Group

Marketing Communications Intern

May - August 2023 • Amelia, OH

What I liked

I loved the experience as an intern here. I learned such an incredible amount of information in the marketing/communications industry, and from day one was thrown on to valuable projects and contributions. This company is full of people who want to mentor you and are motivated to help you! I can truly say leaving this company that I would not be where I am without what I learned and what I was exposed to here. Fantastic internship--if you get the opportunity, take it!

What I wish was different

I wish the internship would have been longer. It was only about 12 weeks. But the fact that I wished it was longer is a good thing!

Advice

Ask questions! Everyone in this company wants you to succeed and will be more than happy to help you. Ask questions, pitch ideas, contribute!

What I liked

It was a flexible part time internship that didn't force me to have to give up anything else in order to get the real world experience at my first corporate job.

Internal Audit Intern

May 2020 • Amelia, OH

What I liked

Working with the internal audit team and being given hands on assignments were the highlights of my internship. I was able to take part in the beginning to end of several different audits and gain exposure to complex business processes.

What I wish was different

There is nothing I would change about my experience other than I wish it could have been in person. The culture and people is really what made this internship fun, even in a remote environment.

Advice

It is easy to feel overwhelmed at first, but it is expected that you know nothing when you come in. Have a positive attitude, ready to learn, and you will do great.

Digital Creative Intern

May 2020 • Amelia, OH

What I liked

My intern site did a great job with helping me learn new web development skills that will be useful to me in my graphic design career. I really enjoyed learning so much about web design, and whenever I had any questions Sean (or any other teammate) was quick to help me clarify things. When I expressed interest in doing work that I wasn't originally assigned, they quickly included me in other meetings / projects, and I was able to work with Kris on more design projects. The fact that I was included in meetings with other team members and given more responsibilities as the summer went on made me feel like a valued member of the team.

Advice

To not be afraid to reach out to your supervisor or other team members if you're interested in exploring different types of work!

Events and Employee Engagement Intern

May 2020 • Amelia, OH

What I liked

The projects I worked on were meaningful and worthwhile, I definitely gained a lot of great work experience

What I wish was different

This past summer the entire internship was virtual because of the pandemic, which was still a great experience, but if it had been in person I think it would have been even better.

Advice

Don't be afraid to try something new.

Marketing Communications Intern

May - August 2018 • Amelia, OH

What I liked

My time at American Modern gave me valuable insight into the world of communications and the extent to which the department provides much-needed guidance to the organization as a whole.

What I wish was different

I only wish I had had the opportunity to come back.

Advice

If you're on the fence about interning or co-oping in a department you're not used to, commit. Taking three or four months of your college career to test what you enjoy doing is worth it. It could provide a whole new world of possibilities.

Automation Solutions Analyst

May - August 2018 • Cincinnati, OH

What I liked

The Automation Solutions Analyst position allowed me to challenge my analytical skills in a professional environment. The position was unlike other experiences, as I had a lot of freedom and autonomy in my role. The internship program is comprised of over 20 interns, which work together in teams and improve initiatives in the organization. The intern program is well structured, with Lunch and Learns weekly and meeting periodically with each other.

What I wish was different

I wish that the position offered more structure in relation to daily activities. Despite the freedom to learn, I felt that there was often not enough work for, as an intern, to support. However, management does provide an outline of activities and projects for the summer.

Advice

This experience was challenging, and gave a practical corporate experience. However, I would suggest that any individual interested in this position be an innovative self-starter, and not shy away from challenge and suggestions. If an individual is not willing to create work, they might have lack of activities to fill the work day.
