Good operations. Fast paced environment that nurtures people who are truly passionate about the field of emergency medicine.
What I wish was different
Not always the most welcoming environment, way too much drama involving employees interpersonal relationships.
Advice
Don’t get involved in the drama. Keep your head up and pay attention and enjoy the silly calls as well as the thrilling ones. There’s much to be learned from veterans but also don’t let them push you around.

EMT-B
June 2018 - August 2019 • Cooperstown, NY
What I liked
I enjoyed the experience that I was able to receive as an EMT for AMR. Specifically, I worked for Cooperstown Dreams Park. This allowed me to work with children and see a variety of sports-related injuries, as well as many other medical emergencies.
What I wish was different
Pay was minimum wage and the drive was far for me.
Advice
I recommend this job if you are starting out as an EMT and live in the area. Also, if you love working with kids and/or love baseball, this is a great job for you!

Emergency Medical Technician
June 2017 • San Bernardino, CA
What I liked
I enjoy being able to help people in our community. With AMR I get to work on stable patients for inter facility transports and critical care patients while i assist a nurse. I also get to work within the 911 emergency response system and get to help people in a variety of public and private settings.
What I wish was different
I wish there was better pay. Southern California pays EMS very low and the unions do not seem to be able to do much to support us.
Advice
I would not recommend EMS as a career. I think it is a good experience to have for a few years, but the lifestyle can be very difficult, especially for the pay. Continuing with higher education to make a livable wage and having a more stable schedule would relieve a lot of the stress the job creates.
