I appreciated the welcoming nature of the company, as it initially seemed daunting to work alongside such accomplished professionals. I was always interested in working at an educational institution such as the American Historical Association, and it was a great experience to learn more about what it took to be an academic in the field. Most importantly, I was treated as an equal at the workplace which gave me a greater incentive to work at the association.
What I wish was different
I wish there would have been more interns whom I could have considered as peers. There was only one other intern who was a graduate student, and it felt slightly intimidating to have been the only undergraduate working at the offices.
Advice
One piece of advice I would give for future interns who might have the opportunity to work at the American Historical Association would to not be daunted by the experience of working with such established individuals in academia! It might seem cliche, but you get what you put in to the time that you have and it can be very rewarding.
