Sales intern

What I liked

The internship gave me a great introduction into the corporate world, as well as introducing me to sales. Once I shadowed the sales field, I knew I wanted to stick to sales in the future.

What I wish was different

I wish I could have shadowed more in the field. I was able to shadow in 3 different states on 5 occasions, but a little more would have been nice.

Advice

My biggest piece of advice when it comes to this experience is to do the best you can to learn as much as you can. There was so much valuable information that I took from this experience, and it takes an effort to learn it all. But very much worth it.

What I liked

I like the people at American Fidelity. This company is full of some of the friendliest people I've ever met. American Fidelity is such an inclusive and amazing company to work for. I hope to acquire a full time position when I graduate.

What I wish was different

The only thing I wish was different is the amount of hours I can work. We can only work up to 20 hours a week as an intern. I wish we were able to work more so that we can make more money if we want.

Advice

To anyone who is ever hired onto American Fidelity, I encourage you to test the waters. Try to train in various departments when you get the opportunity. I have been able to train in the billing department, and I can't wait to move into auditing at some point to job shadow. This company is all about helping you find what you are passionate about.

Operations Intern

What I liked

Coworkers are very supportive and feel very approachable. My supervisors and management team are also awesome to work with, they make working there easy. It is also nice to be part of a paid internship, and getting to work in different divisions of operations feels like very good experience. The ability to set my own hours was very nice as well.

What I wish was different

Depending on the team you get, day to day activities can flex between the extremes of almost nothing to do, or very busy, so you always have to be ready for both.

Advice

This biggest piece of advice that I can think of is that don't give up hope if they don't respond in the first couple of weeks. The initial touchback can take awhile sometimes, but it moves pretty fast after that. Also, if you provide references they will be called, so make sure to think those through!

What I liked

I liked many aspects of the internship from learning new technical and professional experiences to networking with other interns and full-time colleagues. Also, the work culture at American Fidelity is great with numerous rewards and treats for the employees.

What I wish was different

I wished the orientation process would be more streamlined. It was kinda haphazardly at first but eventually, it got better.

Advice

Don't stress too much about the first week or even the first month. Since it is my first internship, I spent too much time and effort about overthinking small things that did not matter. Internships are a new and sometimes, overwhelming experience so you have to adjust first before you can feel comfortable.
