Alliance For Children

MDT Intern

January 2018 - May 2019 • Fort Worth, TX

What I liked

The environment and the friendliness all of the employers were.

What I wish was different

That it lasted a full year versus a semester, counting for double the credit.

Advice

Stay updated and in communication with the employers after graduating.

Multi-Disciplinary Team Intern

July 2019 • Fort Worth, TX

What I liked

I enjoyed the ability to experience a variety of different elements blended between different fields of social science. Seeing aspects of the criminal justice, social work, therapy, and medical examination fields all provided me with greater insight than I previously had.

What I wish was different

I wish that I was given more direct client interaction. Obviously, facilitating the jobs of the other staff members was helpful and useful, but it lacked a sense of concrete fulfillment.

Advice

I would advise that individuals pair this with another internship or experience, as it serves better to supplement a foundation of knowledge, rather than serve as a showcase to put one's knowledge to practical use.

Multidisciplinary Intern

April - July 2019 • Hurst, TX

What I liked

Being thrown into the world of serious crimes almost immediately made me very excited about my major and the possibility of career paths

What I wish was different

I wish the internship itself was more structured, but i was able to provide feedback for future interns that hopefully will improve other students' experience

Advice

No matter what field you go into, if you are the most willing to do work and help others there is a large chance you can succeed and people will start to rely on you and think highly of you.

Family Advocacy Intern

June - August 2019 • Fort Worth, TX

What I liked

I enjoyed being around professionals in the field I hope to go into after graduation.

What I wish was different

The internship was lacking some needed structure. There were several times where there was not much for me to do, but I addressed this with my supervisor and I think they heard my feedback and will hopefully work to provide some more structure so that students can get more experience.

Advice

Know that because of the nature of the work that Alliance for Children does, there are certain things that legally you will be unable to do. Rather than seeing this as something stopping you from learning, try to learn from the things you are able to do.
