Alkermes

Data Analyst Intern

June - September 2022 • Waltham, MA

What I liked

Going into this summer internship, I was a bit apprehensive about working a "9 to 5 desk-job," since I envisioned it would entail long, tiresome hours of repetitive tasks in one room. However, I was amazed at how this internship surpassed all my expectations. I entered this summer being uncertain about my future aspirations and direction post graduation, however, this experience helped me clarify and determine the avenues and niches that I want to pursue post graduation. Here are some of the things I enjoyed best about the job: 1. The emphasis placed on my personal experience and growth in conjunction to my contribution to the team and company: I was so positively surprised to see the amount of value that the team and the company placed on ensuring that my experience was truly beneficial for me and my future aspirations. I would have regular check-ins with my manager who would ask me what kind of tasks/skills I would like to pursue and constantly assess my progress and tailor my journey to my expectations whilst staying in line with what the company required. 2. The variegation of tasks provided to stimulate my interest: I was never bored. I always had different tasks and datasets that I was working with that constantly stimulated my interested and taught me so many different skills. I was working with things like Google Analytics, R and post hoc analysis, different consumer and marketing data and attending several different meetings ranging from Legal CCC meetings to Non Personal Promotion (NPP) marketing meetings. 3. Intern-Led Research Project: The two interns were given agency of one specific intern-led project in an area of interest to Alkermes. It was a great responsibility and learning opportunity. 4. The collaborative, easygoing and friendly team environment 5. Networking Opportunity: We were constantly encouraged to meet up with people from different sectors in the company and talk to them about their experience. I had the opportunity to talk with people from the Sales team, the Lab team, the Market research team and so much more.

What I wish was different

I enjoyed every single part of my experience thoroughly, but if I could change anything, it would probably be integrating a post internship reflection experience. The ending felt a bit rushed and left me craving some sort of distinct conclusion.

Advice

The one piece of advice that I have is to truly embrace the networking opportunity and make the most of it. The entire team at Alkermes is so friendly and approachable and willing to talk to interns. It is a great opportunity to meet new people from different fields and ask them about their experiences and work to gain a better understanding of your interests and learn more.

Processing Development Intern

June - August 2019 • Waltham, MA

What I liked

It was a great experience to learn how industry works, and learn how to use numerous new techniques in both engineering, chemistry, and computer science. It was a greta chance to learn how it feels to have a real job having responsibilities and a paycheck.

What I wish was different

I wish I had the chance to learn more on the chemistry side of pharmaceutical, and less the processing side of the process, since a lot of what I did had to do with electricity and surface energy which are more engineering concepts then chemistry.

Advice

Learn how to code and statistics is the basis for all sciences and incredibly important to process large data efficiently.
