Human Resources Intern

May - August 2019 • Frederick, MD

What I liked

I enjoyed the internship program and the opportunities to learn more and interact with high valued employees. My coworkers and boss in the human resource team were awesome and very helpful when I had questions.

What I wish was different

I wish I had more daily tasks/duties. There were times where I felt I had nothing to do.

Advice

No matter what internship, always go in with a open-mind and be ready to contribute work. There will be times you are overwhelmed and times where you may need to figure things out on your own.

Interactive Media Design

May - August 2019 • Frederick, MD

What I liked

I found this experience to be incredibly transformative and equally as challenging. It was the first time I had ever worked a full-time corporate job, and I certainly feel more prepared for the professional realm. My colleagues were so helpful and kind to me throughout the summer, and I realize now how important it is to work in an environment with other individuals that you genuinely admire. There was a consistent sense of care for me, even in the form of a simple "good morning" every day. You'd be surprised at how big of a difference it makes when someone knows your name and notices you... especially as an intern.

What I wish was different

There isn't a single thing that I would change about this experience, although I did learn that I am not well-suited to sit in a cubicle for 8 hours a day. That aspect will definitely take some getting used to, but besides that, this internship was everything I could've wished for and more.

Advice

The most important piece of advice I can give you is that you remain diligent in your position as an intern. Being an intern means you have to do more than what is expected of you. The end goal of any internship is either a full-time job offer, or a solid recommendation from your supervisor. There are interns that do the most, and then there's everybody else. Be the intern that does 80% of the work, not the intern that does 20%. Ask questions. Engage and communicate. Do not cease to remember that this is an opportunity for you to prove why you're the one they should hire, and not somebody else.
