I enjoyed the flexibility that was offered about the weekly schedule. This allowed me to customize my shift start and end times to work around events in my personal life. I also enjoyed the work environment there. Someone was always more than willing to help if I had any questions. I also enjoyed working on projects that allowed me to understand some of the basics about what the AFLCMC does.
What I wish was different
I wish I could have started with the earlier hiring date. There were two starting dates offered to the interns and I took the later date due to life events. In doing this it took longer to get acclimated to the work environment and catch up to my peers. I also would have gained more experience if I had chosen the earlier start date.
Advice
Do not hesitate to ask questions. Everyone in the building is there to help you out and the more questions you ask the more experience you will get from the internship. I would also recommend participating in meetings as much as possible as it will help gain a better understanding of what they do here. These two things can be intimidating at first due to the experience gap between you and the technical experts but everyone is extremely helpful.
