AgriNorthwest

Agriculture Technician

April - November 2020 • Kennewick, WA

What I liked

I really enjoyed this position because it required me to trust myself and grow my confidence. When offered this job they expected that I knew how to perform the tasks asked of me. It really built my confidence and gave me a desire to continue to learn more.

What I wish was different

I wish I had the opportunity to learn and experience mechanical jobs. I spent most my time with plant science and little with mechanics. Mechanics are a weakness of mine so I wish I had spent more time strengthening that aspect of my skills.

Advice

Don’t be afraid to fail. I’ve spent a lot of time being too scared to try something new because I didn’t want to fail. This year I had nobody to double check my work, so I failed a lot but in return I learned so much. When you aren’t afraid to fail, you put yourself in the best position to learn.

Farm Intern

April - September 2019 • Kennewick, WA

What I liked

Very well organized company to work for. It gave me an excellent experience by tailoring my internship to fit the things I was most interested in learning. Everyone I worked with there was very kind and supportive.

What I wish was different

Honestly couldn't think of anything about my experience that I would change. Everything was so well that I have decided to return next year for a full-time job.

Advice

Don't be afraid to do an internship that takes you away from where you are used to living. I decided to give this one a try and move to a different state and what I experienced and learned was very valuable. I've been able to see that there are many better opportunities for me outside of where I have always lived.

Ag Tech

January 2019 • Kennewick, WA

What I liked

I was able to make decisions on my own and have my own fields to manage.

What I wish was different

I wish I would have had more one on one time with my manager to learn and develop.

Advice

It’s farm hours and hard work. But it’s worth it!
