AgFirst Farm Credit Bank

Project Management Intern

January 2020 • Columbia, SC

What I liked

While working at AgFirst, the company culture was welcoming and helpful in transitioning me into my role. Throughout my internship I have felt comfortable reaching out to managers and everyone else in the bank.

What I wish was different

During this internship I have had a limited amount of group projects with other interns. I wish I had more of a chance to network and meet other interns.

Advice

This internship has shaped my professionalism and work experience. I have learned more in this internship than I have in classes. This is a wonderful work environment, one that provides mentors and many opportunities for growth.

Procurement Intern

May 2016 • Columbia, SC

What I liked

I am an actual part of the company. I process all of the requisitions, Purchase Orders, invoices, and handle contract compliance and bank/building services. Never have I once been tasked with getting coffee or making copies. I do have to do some scanning and uploading but it’s very important stuff that I get to interact with before it gets scanned (contracts, Statements of Work, etc)

What I wish was different

I wish I had been given bigger more results oriented tasks that would stand out on my resume. I did design and implement a vendor scorecard, vendor information change/add form, and coordinate a department / floor move which I can talk about in interviews in the future.

Advice

Go above and beyond what you are asked to do. If you’re asked to create a requisition, create it and deliver it to the manager who it is for and answer any questions they have about it then process it into a P.O. if you are asked to receive / process an invoice, go back and double check that everything is in compliance and matches the PO. If you’re asked to create a requisition based on a contract or Statement of Work, read through the document and ask questions about it to make sure nothing was missed that could harm the company.
