Aflac

Insurance agent sale intern

May 2020 • Kaukauna, WI

What I liked

I like the people that I worked with they were very hands-on and patient with me as I grew to understand the business and insult I was entering. I also liked the entrepreneurship attitude with this internship as you get paid 100% through commission, so you get paid with what you out in almost. Aflac cares a lot about helping the newcomers grow with very insightful training, which helped a lot, they do not just leave you hanging.

What I wish was different

The only thing that I wish could be different is the pay, definitely as a college student and trying to make and save money for school it was very hard to do so with 100% commission. Being an insurance agent is awesome and very cool experience, but it is a job where you need to stay in for awhile before you cen get the salary you are looking for, defiently will not come in a summer.

Advice

Once piece of advice that I would share with this experience is to just "Jump" yes the commission can suck at times in college but with an experience like this you will learn a lot about yourself and learn how to drive yourself for success. You learn that your success and based on and only you, which is the biggest reason I took this internship because I didn't want someone else in the handle of my own success, so just "jump" I dare ya, you'll love it.

Health and Benefits Consultant

May - September 2019 • Garland, TX

What I liked

Excellent company and excellent policies as well. The management really takes time to get to know you and cares about your development

What I wish was different

I wish there was base pay for interns. It’s a very difficult market to gain traction in over the short period of time you are there and not gaining traction and finalizing deals means no money

Advice

Come in not expecting to make a significant amount of money. I did and it really put a damper on my summer

Insurance Agent

June - August 2019 • Medina, OH

What I liked

Opportunity to advance my networking skills and meet amazing people. This internship allowed me to meet people of all backgrounds and provided a lot of inspiration. Also, this internship proved and grew grit and perseverance on a flexible schedule.

What I wish was different

I really wish that the interns were treated differently than full agents because they are after all still college students trying to get through college

Advice

If you are considering this internship make sure you are willing to talk to people and have a lot of determination. As an insurance agent you will not make it very far without the ability to talk and continue forward. (Also, do not expect to make any money like at all no matter what they tell you it's a sales job after all)

Benefits Advisor Intern

May - August 2019 • Seattle, WA

What I liked

I liked working with other interns and our district coordinator that ran our trainings.

What I wish was different

I was told it was paid hourly prior to getting hired, however it was commission-based pay. That was really disappointing and I learned to get these things in writing prior to accepting the job. The woman that hired me was not working with the company when all the interns started, therefore there wasn't proof that stated it was hourly pay. I was quite disappointed and by the time I figured this out, I couldn't get another internship.

Advice

Make sure to get everything in writing and signed prior to accepting the job.

Universal Intern

June - August 2019 • New York City, NY

What I liked

I liked how I got to experience working in different areas of business and I was able to see what I liked and didn't like. Every week was a new experience and it was great to be exposed to new things. It was a great opportunity to try something new and a great experience for my first internship.

What I wish was different

I wish I got to do more hands on experience and work with the professionals in each field rather then just working in groups with other interns who were sharing the same experience.

Advice

Advice that I would like to share if that you should not be afraid to try something new because that is the only way to find out if you like something or not. Sometimes it is necessary to go out of your comfort zone and work in different areas because you never know what the experience can lead to.
