Unliscensed Blackhawk Helicopter Mechanic

June - November 2019 • Joint Base Mdl, NJ

What I liked

Great pay. Got to work on helicopters again like I did in the US Army.

What I wish was different

I wish they kept me employed. I was a temporary worker and hoping to pick up a full time slot at 42$ an hour plus benefits. They let me go at the 4 month mark of my 6 month contract, just like they did to the temp guy before me. I guess its cheaper to do it that way. It was a learning experience about the contracting world.

Advice

Never settle! Always tell yourself "what happens if I lose my job tomorrow?" an have backup plans. Being a veteran, I had several resources and contacts I reached out to. Don't let life's curveballs keep ya down too long. Get back up! Never settle.

Recruiting Intern

May - August 2019 • Omaha, NE

What I liked

I loved the company’s values. “Our people are everything” was relevant in the employees we sought out for our clients and the co-workers I spent my days in-office with. With no experience in the recruitment world, I was able to develop a range of skills I didn’t know I would be so passionate about, from everything interviewing to strength development. Through this internship, I was able to determine what I want to follow as my career path.

What I wish was different

I wouldn’t change a thing of my 12 weeks with the company

Advice

Network. Seek out connections in every potential conversation. By utilizing the tools we have now in college and our internships to meet more people and gain a better understanding of different industries and a strong sense of self awareness. You gain your best sense of confidence by seeking out things that benefit a good greater than yourself.

Filing Consultant

July - August 2018 • Ellington, CT

What I liked

The hours they gave, management, and the people working there.

What I wish was different

The length of the job, it started in July and ended in August
