Mechanical Engineering Coop

August 2018 • Clyde, NY

What I liked

Work on diverse projects with people of various positions. Help is always available, and work is a good mix between sitting in a cubical doing design work and walking the production floor working with operators on hands-on issues. Very rewarding experience.

What I wish was different

Would have enjoyed more group projects working with other Coop students. Much of the work was independent and time consuming (but rarely tedious).

Advice

Be ready to wake up early, and probably commute at least 30 minutes (I do an hour) each way. People are happy to walk you through projects, but you should expect to spend quite a bit of time working without direction. This coop truly makes you put school work to real world applications.

Manufacturing Engineer

May - August 2018 • Clyde, NY

What I liked

I liked how hands on it was I wasn’t making copies or getting coffee I was designing fixtures and I was out on the manufacturing floor pretty much daily.

What I wish was different

I was one of the only women there so I felt a little alienated also the location was hard, it was in the middle of nowhere and I had a long commute.

Advice

For an internship it’s what you make of it you can either get a lot of experience or very little it’s all up to you.
