The main thing that I liked about my internship was getting to know the kids on a more personal level as well as reading about their very different backgrounds/personalities.
What I wish was different
The staff members spent most of the time on their phones and did not really seem to believe that most of the kids had bright futures.
Advice
I personally never once thought about working with juveniles. I mainly settled on this particular internship since the house I was put into was close to where I lived. However, it allowed me to get a different perspective on the criminal justice system so I personally do not regret stepping out of my comfort zone and choosing an internship in an environment that I never considered before.

Just interacting with the youth and helping mold them to become productive members of society

Just the timing as most of the kids had developed bonds and trust with me towards the end of my time there.
Advice
Do not judge someone that is so young and so full of life based on what they have done. Change is most possible in them through examples of people who like like or come where they come from.
