Activist Artists Management

Spring Intern

January - April 2022 • Nashville, TN

What I liked

THE PEOPLE!! Everyone is so kind and wants to help you do well! I loved the hands-on jobs that I got to do including listening to music & podcasts for errors and proofing music cover art. I loved that I got to truly see how different every single day is in the industry. I also loved that there were other interns to learn from and get to know as well! If you ask questions, everyone is very open to helping and giving answers! The office is in a great location from campus, and they are very flexible when it comes to needing time off for something.

What I wish was different

I wish we had more time with all the interns in the office together! Its less lonely when they are both in office with me. My schedule was a bit hectic because I have a lot of classes at various times so it was a lot of running back and forth between school and the office.

Advice

Have confidence in yourself! You know more than you think you do. Be willing to try something a new way and do work without being asked. Take the time to get to know your supervisors!

Artist Management Intern

January - May 2022 • Nashville, TN

What I liked

I loved so many things about this internship and Activist as a whole -- Activist is a fantastic company, and I cannot recommend them enough! To start, everyone at the company -- especially at the Nashville office -- are incredibly communicative and on your team! Throughout my time interning, my superiors were very clear on what they wanted/needed each day. Everyone at the company wants you to succeed, and they will help you do so after your internship is over. There seemed to be an unlimited amount of crucial knowledge to be learned at Activist, you just need the initiative to learn it. This internship is what you make of it; If you are looking for an easy internship just to get credit for school, this isn't the internship for you. However, if you're looking for a hands-on experience that you can learn bunches from within the Artist Management sector of the industry, this is your company.

Advice

Let your strengths be known within the company! Activist does a great job at catering to what you're good at. Meaning, if you enjoy making graphics and are good at them, the company will utilize that skill. On top of that, communicate what you want to learn and/or practice while you are interning. As I said earlier, everyone at the company wants to help you succeed, and communicating your wants will allow them to better assist you and your career aspirations.

Intern

August - December 2021 • Nashville, TN

What I liked

I had a great time at this internship! Although a lot of the times intern tasks seem small, I learned a lot by asking how they fit into the bigger picture. The team was very nice and approachable. They were busy a lot of the time but were happy to answer any questions I had. Throughout the semester we developed a project to present to the rest of the company, which was a great learning experience to me. Furthermore, we had meetings with people from the company where we got the opportunity to hear about their job and ask them questions. Also, there are happy dogs at the office every day.

Advice

Just like many reviews say, you will get as much out of this internship as you put in. Also, when having the chance to talk to people from all areas of the company, look into who they are and prepare good questions. It was very rewarding for me to get their opinions on different parts of the industry.

What I liked

My internship at Activist Artists Management was amazing! All the team members are very helpful and go out of their way to give you the best experience possible. During my time, I learned a lot of skills that I will definitely take with me to my future jobs. One of the aspects I love about the internship is that they let you meet with everyone in the company, even the higher-ups. It is a great way to establish connections. Another project that you get to work on is your end of semester project, where you will present an idea or topic to the entire company at the end of your internship. In my opinion, this internship is a must-do opportunity!

Advice

In some ways, this internship is what you make out of it. The entire team is very busy, so it is your duty to make the effort to go out of the way to ask questions. The team will help you as much as possible, but the amount you learn is parallel to the effort you put in.

What I liked

I really appreciated the hands-on experiences that were provided despite the internship being remote. The company did a great job at adapting to the online format and were able to give us plenty of opportunities to learn about artist management and talk to people working for the company even in the offices in Los Angeles and New York.

Advice

Be open to every opportunity presented to you and be ready to step out of your comfort zone.

Management Intern

January - May 2018 • Nashville, TN

What I liked

I loved this internship! This internship is really what you make of it, the assistants and managers are very approachable once you reach out to them. As it is a management office they are very busy but they will make the time if you ask for it. I had a lot of hands on experience and learned so much about management. There were coffees and lunches with both the managers and assistants which was a great way to learn. There were errands involved but that is part of the internship process and was not my main responsibility. Each of us interns worked on a semester long project in a field of our interest where an assistant helped us put together a presentation for the company. It was a really rewarding experience and I have something to take with me and show for this internship. The employees at Activist are a great resource and are an advocate for me, I highly recommend this internship.

Intern

January - April 2019 • Nashville, TN

What I liked

What I wish was different

As an intern, there was never any respect for my time or efforts. A lot of un-volunteered overtime. No lunch break. It's mostly doing personal tasks for the managers; like driving their dogs home, taking their car to the shop, changing air filters in manager's office, etc. My main job was going and picking up lunch everyday. I didn't learn anything about artist management or the industry in general.

Advice

Honestly, i wouldn't recommend anyone intern at this company. I know that sounds a bit harsh, but there are so many other internship opportunities in Nashville where they want to help you learn.
