What I wish was different

I wish I had less mundane tasks to do. It was just stocking parts and driving them all over Kalamazoo.

Advice

This is a very relaxed atmosphere but it’s nothing more than a minimum wage job. You’ll have very few responsibilities which can be a good or bad thing depending on what you want from the experience.

Shelver

What I liked

The workplace environment was very relaxed. For the most part, everything is decently organized (by serial code, alphanumerically). While work as a shelver is often menial and repetitive, we were always allowed to listen to podcasts while we worked unless we were learning a new product line. Also, the schedule and hours were very flexible, which I took advantage of to fit all my family vacations.

What I wish was different

I would have liked more things to be more organized. There are still a few idiosyncrasies in organization that don't make sense. Also, it isn't very well air-conditioned (only one bathroom near the break room is air-conditioned; the rest of the warehouse is not). Perhaps it wouldn't be feasible to air-condition everything, but it was still uncomfortable sometimes.

Advice

Be humble at first and willing to listen to people. At times, people will be blunt and expect you to know things you couldn't have reasonably known, but for the most part people are forgiving and willing to help. **If you work in the summer, take a water bottle and fill it with as much ice as possible at the beginning of the day! Also, if the forecast is cold, bring a sweater to get to and from your car. It can be something of a hike sometimes.
