What I liked
AbbVie is a great company to gain experience an industrial setting! Even though all this year’s summer internship programs switched to remote, everyone has been super helpful! It’s very easy to connect with people, build network, and most importantly, learn from them. There are so many mentors ready to teach you stuff; for instance, I had a Ph.D. level scientist reach out to me last week offering me a demo on software! I’m normally rather on the hesitant side when it comes to asking questions, but I’ve never felt that hesitation at AbbVie. I have daily meetings with my manager after every workday and I feel no pressure on asking questions at all. They keep you busy with projects, tasks etc., but it really pays off in the end! Because quite frankly, I have realised what we learn at uni is so different than what they are expecting from us in an industrial setting; it’s crazy. But again, everyone was very understanding of the fact that as interns we are there to gain experience and learn things we have never tackled before! Overall, I truly believe AbbVie is a great company to get industry experience as an undergrad and build a great network full of amazing and brilliant scientists who are willing to support you even after your internship has ended!
