AAA

Financial Analyst

June - August 2021 • Walnut Creek, CA

What I liked

I loved learning about being a finance analyst in the headquarters of a billion-dollar business, along with meeting with the CFO bi-weekly. I also got to experience what a corporate job was like, (although during the pandemic), it offered a totally new insight into corporate finance.

What I wish was different

At the beginning of the internship, it was planned for the interns to only be at the office for a few days a week. This hybrid schedule was due to the pandemic, as there were not many people working in the office to interact with. Although unrealistic, I wish that we saw more worker interactions within the company rather than online conference calls. I think I would have learned even more about the position, along with making personal connections to workers.

Advice

If you believe you want to become an Economics major or are interested in finance I suggest taking a position as a financial analyst in any capacity. This will allow you to truly experience what it is like to be surrounded by like-minded people, and you will get a real feeling for a career in this area. As for AAA, utilize the tight-knit community and shallow hierarchical corporate structure to make connections and receive help with your major project!

June - August 2018 • Walnut Creek, CA

What I liked

This experince was mindblowing! I had the opportunity to work at the corporate office for AAA. I got the experince of working in a big corporate envoirment doing cross-functional projects. I worked with a team of 15 other interns to restruct the onboarding process at AAA. I had the opportunity to help develope a new product and present it to the board of directors. I worked with the AAA innovation lab called A3. They are creating new tech project every 90 days. I loved and ejoyed everyday of work. I was offered a full-time position after my internship.

What I wish was different

I wish the office was in Reno! I will miss Reno! I am the first applicant to come from the University of Nevada, Reno. They hire a lot of students from Ivy league and top 20 colleges. I was extremely proud to represent the Wolf Pack! I wish they would hire more students from Nevada.

Advice

Never be scared to ask anyone for help. This is the opportunity for you to become a leader and make something of yourself. You can always ping someone to get coffee with you. Upper-management enjoys spending time with employees.

IT Intern

June - September 2018 • Dearborn, MI

What I liked

I enjoyed the experience I received from working in a large corporate environment, being able to shadow and sit in on meetings with professionals in my field of study, and being a part of a team trying to create something new that was really useful and made things easier for the very busy chief executives.

What I wish was different

I wish I could have had the opportunity to gain more hands on experience in cyber security, but I can understand that many of the jobs they do require lots of experience and a higher skill set with more training involved which they didn't have the time to train me since I was only a temporary intern.

Advice

I would definitely advise all students approaching graduation to apply for as many internships relating to their field as they can in order to make good money over the summer, and to get professional experience in their field before graduating. This will make securing a job after graduation much easier as it shows employers you are passionate about the field, ready to work hard, and you will have some experience and accomplishments to show for it.
