RAICES

About RAICES

Founded in 1987 at the Refugee Assistance Project by community activists in South Texas, RAICES has grown to be the largest immigration legal services provider in Texas. With offices in Austin, Corpus Christi, Dallas, Fort Worth, and San Antonio and staff based in Houston and Washington, D.C., RAICES is a front line organization in the roiling debate about immigration and immigrants in the world. As an organization that combines expertise developed from the daily practice of immigration law with a deep commitment to advocacy, RAICES is unique among immigration organizations. A diverse staff of 110 attorneys, legal assistants, and support staff provide consultations, direct legal services, representation, assistance and advocacy to communities in Texas and to clients after they leave the state. In 2016, RAICES staff closed 43,000 cases at no cost to the client. Our advocacy and commitment to change are driven by the clients and families we serve everyday as our attorneys and legal assistants provide legal advocacy and representation in an immigration system that breaks apart families and leaves millions without pathways to legal status.

β€œI loved being able to serve communities that I care about in a direct and tangible way. I also liked meeting people who were just as passionate about direct service and advocacy as I am!”

Legal Intern

β€œAn absolutely incredible experience working with RAICES legal team in Karnes detention center! I learned so much about asylum law and improved my Spanish. I loved being on the ground seeing how our immigration policy was implemented and how lawyers respond to executive/legislative changes to precedents. San Antonio is a great small sized city to explore in the summer. ”
