The skills that were most important were to be personable and engage the customers in a kind and fair manner. Traveling can be stressful on many people and they tend to not be the best version of themselves while traveling. As a Flight Attendant, patience and quick thinking are key. Quick thinking is a must as each flight presents unique situations that may arise since you have a bunch of stressed out people, hurling through the air in a metal tube. The training period (6 weeks when I went through) tested to see how you handle stress in intense situations. Several people do not make it through the training. Remember, Flight Attendants are their for your safety in the event of an emergency. The training is all about creating stressful situations and seeing how you respond and see if you can you evacuate an airplane safely and calmly.

Patience and a hard shell, because sometimes it’s like being an adult babysitter. You can’t yell or be rude when someone is inconsiderate to you (and it happens almost daily), just smile and wave and show how you care. Energy, because you will be exhausted after a day in the air, but you’ll still want to see the sites on your layovers. Acting like you love people (even if you don’t), because you’re going to meet a plethora of them!
