ScribeAmerica is a great kickstart to a career in health or medicine. You basically get paid to shadow a doctor, learn a ton about diseases and how they are diagnosed and how to interact with patients. I worked in the ED, so the patients were extremely diverse and I was exposed to a variety of cases. Scribing also helps you become familiar with medical terminology which is a huge plus as medicine is almost like a different language.
In my opinion, if an individual 1. is looking to excel and go into a masters degree program like myself 2. needs to scribe in place of experience 3. Has ADDITIONAL FREE time, I would consider scribing to get a foot in a door. Scribe is not the end all be all due to compensation starting out @ $11/hr in Chicago.
I think scribing is a great experience for those who want to go into medicine. You will have the opportunity to shadow physicians full-time and see what their life in clinic really looks like. It is an especially great opportunity for people taking a gap-year before professional school in healthcare.
