Main qualities/experience to highlight would be based around a collaborative work environment. It’s important to have a specific skill or subject that you’re very good at (mechanical/electrical/software design), but the projects tend to be multidisciplinary so it is important to have a broad enough understanding of each to integrate with other team members’ subsystems effectively.

Service Innovations Co-op at Philips North America

If you are interested in pursuing a Co-op position with Philips, I would suggest to first start by carefully reading the job description. Most job descriptions list out major skills the company is looking for in a candidate. Search for keywords and list them out, and then match those requirements with software or behavioral skills that first come to your mind when reading those keywords. Next, list your skills next to those requirements and see how well do you match. Once you have that, start thinking about your story, and how have you used these skills in the past, for class projects or previous internship or work experiences. Then during your interview, share these stories and mention the software you used, or how did you use team work skills or leadership skills in a project. Knowing how well do you match with their requirements gives you a natural confidence in the interview. For the service innovations co-op position, one needs to have good documentation skills, being able to perform well in high pressure situations during project milestone reviews. Have some experience in data analysis using excel. Some good software to know would be MS Project, MS Visio, and MS Outlook.

- If you are a programmer, know SQL, python - If you are an engineer, know MATLAB - Familiarize yourself with how an MRI, PET, and CT works (not required, but will really make you stand out) - Be prepared to share some leadership experience(s). Philips is big on this - If you can, ask a fellow student who has already worked at Philips what their experience was like. The interviewer will spend a decent amount of time sharing what their specific role/department is, and you can then ask deeper questions if you have already familiarized yourself with how a big company like Philips operates

Know what role you are applying, reach out to someone already in that role and learn more about it, do your research and then follow the company news to get a better idea.
