Most often logging is done at night, so mornings are typically busy. Getting the data loaded into the various software platforms for petrophysicists, geologists, and reservoir engineers is usually the first task of the day. If you can load data and document (when data arrived, by whom, what is missing, etc.) simultaneously that is best. Depending on the complexity of the data gathering tools, more advanced processing might be involved. A simple common example would be processing image logs. Occidental likely won't pay for a vendor's petrophysicists to do advanced processing, so that falls to the Engineering Specialists. When the data loading is done, it is archived digitally and often in paper copies. Other less critical data, like cased hole logs can be looked at and archived. Usually the engineers get a copy of the printed log and make their decisions as the data comes in, so there is little need for processing. When the main loading, processing, archival duties are done, petrophysicists and geologists usually have projects for you to work on. Mining through the archives and pulling out data for a specific set of wells and formatting for the intended purpose. Being competent with Excel is a must for these types of projects. Many projects also involve data cleanup or taking old analog and paper data and getting into a digital format.
