Admissions Counselor at Wentworth Institute of Technology
about 2 years ago
Admissions will be a great deal of emailing and processing paperwork, along with following up with people who have inquired about the school, and those that have applied. Typically there will be daily tasks like calling through a list of students who want to get questions answered, then there may be daily tasks having to do with application processing, receiving and uploading documents, and meeting with students as they come into the office to learn more. In addition, there are a great deal of meetings! Higher education is known (as most fields are) for committees, teams, task forces etc that will meet periodically to work on a specific project. As a counselor gets more involved in the institution, days will also be filled with meetings. For some more traditional admissions counselors (I work in adult/evening admissions) there is a great deal of travel. If you are assigned to a specific geographic area to recruit high schoolers out of, you can expect that the majority of each Fall season will be spent at college fairs and information sessions in that region.
