At Raymond James, I actually worked 40-hour weeks typically from 8:30 in the morning to 5:30 in the evening. This can be very different from equity research internships at other firms, because Raymond James doesn't want to burn you out as an intern (this is not the case for investment banking interns at Raymond James though). As I've witnessed, full-time associates at Raymond James usually work 7-7 and possibly more during earnings season, so do not expect 40-hour weeks if you pursue equity research full time. Regarding a day at work as an intern, my tasks varied a ton. In the beginning of the summer, I was mostly getting to know the sector I was working with (biotechnology) and helping to prepare presentations for my analyst. Afterwards, I was able to dive more into the actual work of equity research and helped to craft a thought piece on the microbiome space within biotech and even begin writing up an initiation of coverage and creating the revenue model for a microbiome company. Furthermore, during earnings season (end of July - mid August), I was given the responsibility of one company and had to update the model and write up the earnings note for that company.
