Former Paraeducator at Clarkston Community Schools

Being an Elementary Education major was beneficial because I had lots of classroom experience prior to taking the Para educator position. I also was familiar with differentiated instruction and classroom management. I was unfamiliar with Special Education as a whole when I took the job and learned a lot from the staff and students I worked with. I think it would be beneficial for Elementary Education major's to have more experience in Special Education settings, allowing for pre- service teachers to gain an appreciation and understanding for working with students with varying needs.
